After Jeremy Korth, owner of Maury’s in Sutton, purchased the building next door following the July 29, 2023 tornado, he got to work right away cleaning up the mess the storm left behind.

On July 1, 2024, he started cleaning out the building— the former salon—while simultaneously working on Maury’s, which was also hit by the tornado.

It took a couple of months, but eventually the building was cleaned up and ready for renovations.

Korth said owning and operating a laundry and tanning business wasn’t initially in his mindset, but based on community needs for a laundry mat, and seeing people were interested in tanning, he felt is was a good thing to invest in.

Between Maury’s and the laundry mat, there was a lot of work to do and a lot of dumpsters emptied. However, Korth said he wasn’t able to do it by himself, giving thanks to L6 Roofing and Construction, Christopher Robbins, Al’s Old House Repair, and Taylor Engberg.

Engberg was also a huge driving force behind the Lucky Laundry and Tan logo.

He also gave thanks to the community for its support, as well as those at the City of Sutton, including Tim Anderson and Jeff Hofaker.

“I really felt support through everything,” Korth said.

Lucky Laundry and Tan, located at 213 N Saunders, is currently open 24/7. There is no code to get into the business, and can be used by anyone who needs it.

Lucky Laundry has four regular-sized washers and dryers, as well as one industrial- sized washer and dryer.

The machines are coin operated, with a dollar-tocoin machine in the laundry mat, and if you forget soap, there are two machines with options set up as well.

While waiting for clothes to wash and dry, customers can play at one of the four slot machines (age restricted), or watch TV. There is also a table set up with an outlet in it, to allow for working or doing school work.

Currently, there is one tanning bed but there is a second room ready to go if that part of the business goes well.

The tanning bed will be available to use May 13. People can start paying cash on that day, with a credit card payment option to be available soon.

People wanting to use the tanning bed need to go to Maury’s to purchase a tan. Costs are as follows:

• Single tan, $15

• Five tans, $60

• Ten tans, $100

• One month unlimited, $70

• Six month unlimited, $300

• One year unlimited, $550

• Glasses are $2

Currently, there is one tanning booth available. Tans can be purchased at Maury’s.
These two machines have laundry soap available for purchase.
