A pair of tough Twin Valley Conference games faced the Harvard girls basketball team this past week as Blue Hill and Deshler both would earn wins over the Lady Cardinals, dropping Harvard to 6-9 on the season.
Tuesday’s battle at Blue Hill was a struggle as the Lady Bobcats behind a 17-3 first quarter run and a 14-4 second quarter run would put Blue Hill up 31-7 at the half. Blue Hill eventually would earn a 59-16 win over Harvard.
Senior Alison Engle scored 14 of the Lady Cardinals’ 16 points, hitting on half of her six shots, and connecting on five of eight free throws. Jennifer Callahan added the other two points in the loss.
Engle and Katie Bell led in rebounds with six and four respectively, while Smith and Bell had one assists each.
Friday nights trip to Deshler to take on the Lady Dragons opened with another tough start for Harvard as an 11-1 Deshler run in the first quarter would eventual lead to a 47-25 Deshler win.
Harvard gained a 12-10 scoring advantage in the second quarter but runs of 13-9 and 13-3 in the third and fourth quarters by Deshler would leave the lady Cardinals 22 points short as the final buzzer sounded.
