Coming off the tight battle with Kearney, Sunday nights championship bout with First National of Holdrege would prove to be a bit less stressful for coaches Rod Tegtmeier and Jim Hild and their crew in blue as and healthy dose of the D-E bats in the first three innings would provide D-E with an early 8-2 lead, a lead they would never give up.
D-E would pound out five hits in the first inning, including a Tegtmeier double, two singles from Scott Hild, as well as, singles from pitcher Andrew Kuta and from first baseman, Luke Christensen.
D-E would post two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and hold Holdrege’s offense at bay to gain the 12-2 win in just six innings of play to notch their 15th win in 17 games this season.
Kuta’s night on the mound would see him mow down eight Holdrege hitters, including three in the bottom of the sixth inning to all but handcuff their hosts.
