Sophomore Mikaela Shaw, and senior Keri Shaw lead a strong contingent of Lady Cougar tracksters to the 2011 Nebraska State Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday.
The Shaw sisters will compete in seven events total, with Mikaela qualifying in four events, and Keri adding three events to the total list of six events for Sandy Creek.
Mikaela opened Thursday’s C-7 District meet at Henderson with a second place finish in the high jump, clearing the 5’ 0” mark, to trail only that of Doniphan-Trumbull’s
Kirsten Sullivan, who cleared 5’ 2” to win the event title.
Shaw then captured gold in the long jump with a 15’ 9” leap.
In the two field events, Shaw joins eight other jumpers, including teammate Tori Wheeler, who cleared the 5’ 0” mark in district competition.
Wheeler placed in a three way tie for third place in the C-7 meet, also with a 5’ 0” jump.
Shaw’s mark in the long jump qualify’s her with the 19th best district jump heading to Omaha.
