The Davenport-Edgar Seniors continued their winning ways to open the 2011 baseball season with a pair of wins over Lawrence-Nelson, and Minden in week two of the season.
Lawrence-Nelson, behind a pair of doubles, and a triple would stymie the D/E squad early, holding a 7-1 lead after three innings of play.
The guys in blue, however, slowly fought their way back into the game, closing the gap to just two-runs after the fifth inning as Ryan Tegtmeier, and Kendrick Holeman scored in the fourth frame, while Tyler VanCleef and Preston Hild crossed home plate in the fifth inning to set the game at a 7-5 L-N lead heading to the sixth.
Andrew Kuta and Van Cleef both reached the base path to start the inning, setting up a huge three run home run by Hild to lift D/E to an 8-7 lead.
The home run derby for D/E wasn’t over in the sixth as Kuta setpped up with Mike Houchin, Mike Reinsch, and Trent Tietjen occupying all three bases which set up Kuta for the biggest hit of the night, a grand slam home run to power D/E to a 13-8 lead. L-N would plate one run in the seventh as well, lifting D/E to the come from behind, four-run win.To read more results, see this week’s issue of the Clay County News (6/8/11)
