For a group of 12 Sandy Creek seniors, Friday night’s C1-6 District game with the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines certainly didn’t cap their final home game in their careers in a great way.
The road made life no easier for the Sandy Creek football team last week as a trip to Milford yielded a 42-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Eagles as the Cougars fell to 0-6 on the year with the loss.
Challenging matches would headline the Sandy Creek Lady Cougars week of action as an Oct. 8 home bout with Deshler would push the limits in the match, but strong defensive play would preserve the four set win, beating Deshler 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Kaylee Fike and Kolt Illingworth paced the South Central Red Raiders cross country teams while taking part in the postponed Twin Valley Conference meet, held in Hebron with the Deshler Dragons hosting the meet.
Fresh off of their tournament championship title at Adams Central Sept. 28 where the Sandy Creek volleyball team knocked the Superior Wildcats from the ranks of the unbeaten, a trip to Milford to challenge the then 10-4 Lady Eagles would continue Sandy Creek’s new found success as the Southern Nebraska Conference match between the two team proved to be a classic down to the wire battle.
