The Harvard Cardinals with their 48-41 first round D-1 Sub-District loss to the Hearland Lutheran Red Hornets closed out the 2013-14 basketball season with five more wins then during the 2012-13 season a year ago due in part to winning three of their final five games of the season to finish the season at 6-17.
For two of the three Harvard Cardinal wrestlers that advanced to the 2014 Nebraska State High School Wrestling Championships, the trip to Omaha started off with a bang as both Colton Ives and Dallas Doupnik, Jr. both knew that after day one inside of the CenturyLink Center that they were bringing home state meet hardware.
Headed into the first round of the D1-6 sub-district tournament, the match-up seemed skewed to Heartland Lutheran’s side. The Red Hornets boasted six more wins, two-and-a-half more wildcard points and the Harvard Cardinals had only seven players suited and eligible to play.
Opening round action in the D1-6 girls sub-district basketball tournament would see eventual tournament champion, Red Cloud record a 42-17 win over the Harvard girls basketball team, ending the Lady Cardinals season at 0-22.
The Harvard Cardinal wrestling team was in a position to have their full team lineup qualify for the 2014 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships this weekend with all eight members of their wrestling team nearly making the trip to Omaha.
