The Harvard girls basketball team narowlly missed their first win of the 2013-14 basketball season on the heels of two late foul shots, made by McCool Junction, a game that would see the Lady Mustangs steal a 35-34 win and leave Harvard winless with the addition of a tough 58-20 loss to Twin Valley Conference foe, Silver Lake.
Five individual champions would help lead the South Central Red Raider wrestling team to a runner up team finish in the Superior Invitational Friday, following only that of the Sutton Mustangs in the team race.Sutton would outlast South Central 167.5-150.5 in the final team count.
Free throws and solid defensive play would help the Sutton Fillies earn their third straight overall win and their four overall Southern Nebraska Conference win in as many SNC games as the Fillies downed Fillmore Central 43-37 on Jan. 14, before running past Thayer Central Friday night to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in SNC play.
The Sandy Creek boys basketball team broke open last week with their first two wins of the 2014 portion of their season, running past Deshler 38-29 Jan. 14, before blasting the Superior Wildcats 63-43 to improve to 5-8 on the season.
Led by senior Colton Ives’ runner up finish in the 195 pound class, the Harvard wrestling team’s outing at the Gibbon Invitational would see the Cardinals garner 91 team points in a meet that was ruled by the Wood River Eagles who would win the team title with 198 points. Boone Central/Newman Grove claimed second place as a team, scoring 161.5 points on the day.
