The Sutton trap teams wrapped up their 2025 season this past weekend by taking part in the 55th annual Cornhusker State Trap shoot in Doniphan, with the junior squads hitting the action Thursday, May 1, while the senior squads took part in the 16-yard shoot, Friday, May 2, while handicap shooting was Saturday, May 3.
The big show for Sutton belongs to the girls team, made up of Grethe and Elsa Andersen, Leah Cool, Aniston Jasnoch, and Laurel Moore.
The girls placed second overall in the 16-yard shoot with 319 downed targets to follow only Ashland’s 4-H squad by just two targets.
Omaha Marian’s blue squad finished third overall with 315 downed targets.
The Sutton five then went on to place third overall in the final overall standings with 620 total targets broken to follow Bennington with 624 total to win the girls overall title, while Norris placed just ahead of Sutton with 622 downed targets.
Gavin VanderLey and Jasnoch led all Sutton shooters with 133 total downed targets out of 150 total shots.
VanderLey was 70-75 from 16-yards and 63-75 from the 24-25-yard mark, while Jasnoch hit on 69 of 75 targets from 16-yards, and hit on 64 of 75 targets from her 22-23yard handicap spot.
Leah Cool was 129-150 overall, while Cord Pope and Cameron Wilson were both 125-150 over the weekend.
