Sophomore Connor Hinrichs and freshman Max Huxoll will represent the Sutton boys track and field team during this weekend’s Nebraska State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke High School. The duo earned trips to the big show in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump, respectively.
Sutton, as a team tallied 20 points, while gaining a total of four medals in action at the C-7 District meet in Wood River, May 15.
Hinrichs placed third in the 300-meter hurdles, qualifying for state as one of the top seven fastest non-automatic qualifying times across the state in Class C competition. His time of 42.76 seconds placed him third behind Doniphan- Trumbull’s Jack Poppe, who won with a time of 40.73 seconds, and behind St. Cecilia’s Drake Rosno’s time of 42.15 seconds.
Huxoll, like Hinrichs, qualified for state as one of the top seven farthest jumps in Class C that didn’t finish in the top two of the triple jump during district competition statewide in Class C.
Huxoll sailed to a personal record 41’4.5” in the event to place fourth overall in Wood River. St. Paul’s Conner Douthit won the event with a 43’11” jump, Doniphan-Trumbull jumpers, Poppe and Taylon Bennett finished second and third, respectively, with Poppe sailing 43’1.5,” and Bennett placing third with a 42’1.5” leap.

Sutton’s 1,600-meter relay team, made up of Keith Kliewer, Hinrichs, Payton Reed, and Jacob Huxoll ran to a third-place time of three minutes, 39.24 seconds, just missing a trip to Omaha in the event. Heartland and St. Paul battled it out for the top two spots, as Heartland won with a time of 3:34.34, while St. Paul finished the four-lap relay in 3:34.96.
Kliewer also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.43 seconds. Central Catholic’s Graham Stava won the event in 51.46 seconds.
