Sutton senior Jadyn Friesen will represent the Mustang golf program at the 2025 Class C state golf championships, as Friesen earned top individual honors during the C-4 District tournament Tuesday, May 20, at the Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island.

Despite playing conditions that disrupted all players in the 15-team field, Friesen earned the tournament title after a two-hole playoff with Doniphan-Trumbull’s Jett Hollister. Both players ended regulation with identical scores of 75 during the 18-hole tournament.

Friesen edged Hollister out for the tournament’s individual title by one stroke to claim gold.

Friesen’s play takes the Mustang senior to the state tournament, to be played May 28 and 29, at the Jackrabbit Run golf course in Grand Island with the third-best score out of district competition in Class C.

Friesen opened his day with a 38 on the front nine, and wrapped up play with a 37 on the back nine for a total of 75 strokes against strong northerly winds and temperatures that struggled to reach into the upper 50s during play.

Sutton’s final group of four seniors fell just short of qualifying for the Class C state meet, after the Mustangs finished fifth overall as a team, shooting a 342 to fall five strokes short of third place— the qualification threshold as a team.

Kearney Catholic won the C-4 team title with a 321, St. Paul placed second with a 331, while Grand Island Central Catholic claimed the final team spot at state out of the district with a 337.

Minden placed fourth with a 341, followed by Sutton’s 342. Harrison Herndon finished the day with an 85, shooting a 41 on the front nine, and a 44 on the back. Aidan Jones finished play with an 87, carding scores of 46 on the front and 41 on the back.

Wrapping up play for the Mustangs was David Fonseca with a 95 (49 and 46), while Brayden Griess finished the tournament with a 106 (51 and 55).
