Sutton High School graduate, Nathan Baldwin, the son of Randy and Brenda Baldwin of rural Sutton, fresh off of winning the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) discus championship added a special honor to his credit last week by earning NAIA All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the discus during the 2025 NAIA Ourdoor Championships as a member of the Concordia Track and Field team in Seward.
Baldwin, according to a release from Concordia’s sports information office, “The Sutton native got the job done with his very first throw, which sailed a distance of 160’10”. This is a starting point for Baldwin, who has a bright collegiate career ahead of him. He entered the national meet seeded fifth and carried high expectations into the week.
Baldwin said, “I’m very grateful that I was able to come out and throw, but I really thought I was going to do a little better. I had a throw that could have done a little better (but was a scratch), but it’s pretty good, so I’ll take it … The nerves weren’t really that bad in the moment. In the days leading up to it, I was really nervous. Once I stepped in the ring, I was pretty calm. I just tried to do what I was working on.”
Baldwin, who still owns the Class C state discus meet record with a 2023 throw of 183’10” has several other honors that he’s received during his college career, as after a tough freshman season, plagued by injury, Baldwin has been named a 2025 NAIA Scholar-Athlete, and he earned All-GPAC honors in the shot put during the 2025 indoor season.
