Corman and Rempe pace Sandy Creek during D-1 District meet near Humboldt May 20
Powered by the play of sophomore Keaton Corman and senior Connor Rempe, the Sandy Creek Boys Golf Team will return to the Class D state golf tournament in Columbus as a full team after placing third in the D-1 District tournament May 20, at the Kirkman’s Cove Golf Course near Humboldt.
The Cougars held off Lawrence- Nelson by one stroke to advance to the state meet, played at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus May 28 and 29, as the Cougars outscored the Raiders 387-388 to earn the final team qualifying spot out of district competition.
Johnson-Brock claimed the team title with a 346 over second-place Deshler, who fired a 362 in the 18--hole tournament.
Corman led the Cougars with an 83, shooting scores of 41 and 42 during the tournament, while Rempe finished play with an 87, as he shot a 44 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine.
Rounding out the Cougars’ play was sophomore Evan Swartzendruber with a 94, as Swartzendruber carded scores of 46 and 48. Meanwhile, John Skalka scored a 123 (64 and 59), while Jaxon Heath fired scores of 55 and 73 to finish play with a 128.
