The Sutton Junior American Legion baseball team busted into the new season Thursday, May 29, with a 4-3 road win over the Aurora Juniors, as all the scoring for both teams was produced in the fifth and sixth innings.
Both teams rang up two runs in the fifth frame, while in the sixth, Sutton held a 2-1 scoring edge, leading the Mustangs to the eventual one-run victory and starting the year at 1-0.
Cale Nuss led the hitting charge with a pair of singles in four trips to the plate, while driving in one run.
Kaleb Ostrander and Aydan Banta both drove in one run on one double each, while Juan Reyes and Remington Behmerwohld went 1-2 at the plate, as Sutton outhit Aurora 6-4.
DJ Hajny went the distance on the mound for Sutton, throwing for seven innings. Hajny struck out seven, walked just two, and allowed the three Aurora runs on three singles and a double.
