Thirteen 4-Hers experienced an all-day Project Palooza Friday, June 6.
Now, what does this all entail? The kids completed four projects, which three can be entered into the County Fair.
Tie-dying T-shirts was first on the morning agenda. Each child decided on the color and type of design for their shirt. The shirts were left to absorb the colors and dry outside.
Brushes, wood pieces, and stain would start the process of 3D display shelf.
The 4-Hers learned to apply wood stain to the frame pieces. After the wood pieces were dried, hammers and nails were used to assemble the frame. Wire was cut to the correct size and stapled to the back of the frame.
4-H is not all about projects, it also promotes community and citizenship.
Learning about the circuit connection of batteries and LED bulbs helped add a lighted design to the 4th of July cards the kids drew.
The cards are to be given to someone in the community. Freezer meals was the last project to complete for the day. Food, meal prep, kitchen, and personal safety were discussed with the 4-Hers. The two freezer meals made were Tater Tot Casserole and enchiladas.
Project Palooza Day could not have happened without the staff at Clay County Extension Holli Alley and Cara Felber and Fillmore County Extension, Alexis Schmidt, they did an amazing job keeping everything moving smoothly.
