Sutton Seniors split with Malcolm, Fairbury

A mid-week split for the Sutton Senior Legion baseball team would see the Mustangs fall 16-1 against Malcolm Tuesday, June 10, before bouncing back for a big 14-6 victory at Fairbury Wednesday, June 11.

During Sutton’s battle at Malcolm, the hosts outhit the Mustangs 9-5, while scoring in each of the four innings of the game.

Carson Mau tallied the lone run of the game for Sutton, as he was driven in by Cash Parrish’s lone single in the game.

Wyatt Pollet had a double and a single in the loss, while Payton Reed and Treven Stassiness both added singles.

Joey Peterson took the loss on the mound as he walked five and allowed nine runs on seven hits.

In relief, Cody Funk issued four walks, struck out two and allowed seven runs on two hits.

In the bounce-back 14-6 win over Fairbury, Stassiness went the distance on the mound, walking just two, while striking out 11. He allowed the six Fairbury runs on four hits.

Sutton held a 10-3 lead after the third inning, and went on to outscore Fairbury 4-3 in the final three innings for the eight-run victory.

Stassiness held the big hand at the plate with a home run and a pair of singles while driving in two runs. Caleb Reiners drove in five runs behind a triple and two singles, while Weston Ohrt drove in two runs with a double and two singles.

Peterson was 2-2 with two singles, while Mau was 2-4 at the plate with a pair of singles.
