Sutton’s Senior Legion baseball team extended their current winnings streak to four games during a pair of midweek games June 24 and 25. The Mustangs rolled to a 9-0 win at Doniphan, before returning home to DLD Park for a 10-2 victory over Wilber to run their season record to 12-8 with the wins.
Against Doniphan-Trumbull, Sutton ran through the fourth inning with a 7-0 lead, followed by a pair of runs in the fifth to post the nine-run win.
Weston Ohrt and Cash Parrish claimed two hits each, as Sutton outhit D-T 8-2 in the game. Ohrt was 2-2 with a pair of singles, while driving in two runs, while Parrish was 2-3 with a pair of singles.
Joey Petersen was 1-2 with a one-run double, while Aidan Jones, Caleb Reiners, and Carson Mau all tallied up a single each, with Jones driving in two runs in the process.
Ohrt managed most of the game on the mound, throwing for four and a third innings. He walked just two, while striking out nine, while allowing the two D-T hits.
Payton Reed closed out the game on the mound, striking out two in the final twothirds of the fifth frame. Pedersen ruled the mound during Sutton’s 10-2 win at home over Wilber, as in five innings of work, Petersen walked two and struck out 10 Wilber hitters. He allowed three hits and the two Wilber runs.
The game proved to be somewhat of a tight battle early, as Sutton held a narrow 3-2 lead after the third, but one run in the fourth and six more runs in the fifth broke open the game to give Sutton the 10-2 win.
Of Sutton’s three hits, Pollet and Reiners had doubles, as Pollet was 1-2 at the plate, while Reiners was 1-1. Jones tallied the third Sutton hit with a two-run single.
