The Sutton Junior Legion baseball team, as they prep for the post-season, which begins this Friday, July 11 in Hebron with the Class C, Area-4 tournament closed out the regular season with a dominating 17-2 win at home with BDS on Saturday, July 5, before having to settle for a 5-5 tie with Doniphan- Trumbull, Sunday, July 6, setting their season record at 11-13-1.
Saturday’s drubbing of BDS was helped by the fact that BDS had six fielding errors to go along with six walks. Sutton, after leading 3-2 after an inning and a half exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second and seven more in the bottom of the third to cruise to a 15 run victory.
Sutton outhit BDS 7-1, with DJ Hajny, Cale Nuss, and Creighton Jones driving in two runs each, Hajny with a double, while Nuss and Jones both hit two-run singles.
Adding to the hit parade were Kaleb Ostrander, Everett Yost, Aydan Banta, and Michael Lockhart, who all had singles in the win. Yost and Lockhart both drove in one run.
River Glinsman manned the hill for Sutton’s pitchers for two innings, striking out one, while allowing one hit. Banta gave up four walks, struck out two, and gave up two runs without allowing a hit.

In the season finale on their home field at DLD Park, Sutton settled for a 5-5 tie in seven innings of action Sunday night.

Doniphan-Trumbull jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play. D-T scored three runs in the second and two more in the third before Sutton’s offense came to life, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, while adding one run in the bottom of the sixth and bottom of the seventh innings, to set the five run tie.
Lockhart and Yost both had two hits, with Lockhart gaining a double and a single, while Yost had a pair of singles, as both were 2-3 at the plate.
Brody Borgmann, Nuss, Jones, Banta and Hajny all singled, as Sutton outhit D-T 9-4.
Hajny worked four innings on the mound, walking five, striking out eight, while giving up the five runs on four hits.
Kaleb Ostrander walked six and struck out five without giving up a hit or a run.
