Coming off a doubleheader sweep over BDS Monday, June 30, the same two teams squared off in a single game of action Thursday, July 3, with the same result, a South Central victory.
South Central swept BDS 9-2 and 6-1 in the June 30 twinbill, and moved their season record to 12-5-1 with a 5-1 win July 3.
South Central held an 11-7 hitting edge to chart a 5-1 win, to gain their 12th win of the season as South Central prepares for action in the Class C Area-4 post-season tournament, slated to begin Friday, July 11, in Hebron. A first-round opponent, however, had not been set.
South Central and BDS set at a 1-1 tie after the first inning, before South Central earned two runs in the third and fifth innings, to secure the four-run victory.
Jedt Livgren led the 11-hit outing for South Central with a pair of singles in three trips to the plate.
Grayhm Beck drove in a pair of runs with a double, while hitting singles in the win proved to be Wyatt Hemberger, Josh Spray, Chase Batterman, Gus Harrison, Jace Hoelting, Brockett Reed, Camden Wehrman, and Alex Watts.
Spray, Batterman, and Harrison drove in one run each of their singles.
A pair of pitchers worked the mound in the game, with Wehrman gaining the win with his efforts in four and two-thirds innings. Wehrman walked five, struckout five, and allowed the one BDS run on four hits.
In relief, Jace Hoelting didn’t walk anyone, nor did he strike out anyone, while giving up three hits to close out the win.
