Hofaker’s resignation accepted by Sutton Council

One-and-Six-Year Road Plan discussed Monday night

Members of the Sutton City Council officially accepted the resignation of City Administrator Jeff Hofaker during their monthly meeting held Monday, July 14.

Hofaker’s resignation was announced in the July 2 issue of the Clay County News, with his final day on the job for the City of Sutton being Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Staff members will begin advertising for Hofaker’s replacement immediately, as approved by council members Monday night.

Doug Christiansen with 5-Rule Rural Planning out of Kearney shared an updated picture of the current standing with the City of Sutton’s Vacant Property Registry (VPR), with Christiansen sharing that three residential properties remain on the registry, including properties located at 105 N. Way, at 305 S. Saunders, and at 203 S. Maltby. The update from Christiansen required no action, as it was purely an update of the 5-Rule Rural Planning group.

Tim Sladek and Jesse Anderson introduced themselves to the council as Sladek and Anderson will be the leadership of Waypoint Bank, which is currently in the process of taking over Astra Bank in Sutton.

Sladek, the President and CEO of Waypoint, based out of Cozad spoke briefly with the council, sharing their goals and ideas throughout the transition for Waypoint, while Anderson, who is the Clay Center Branch President, and will have that same role in Sutton once Waypoint Bank takes over the financial institution in Sutton.

Waypoint Bank has three other locations in Nebraska, including in Eustis, Cambridge, and Imperial, as well as two out-of-state locations in Colorado Springs, CO, and Fort Collins, CO.

Steve Parr with JEO Consulting, serving as the city’s acting street superintendent, updated council members regarding Sutton’s one-and-sixyear road plan, sharing that three areas in the community are on the one-year project, including the current downtown revitalization project along the north half of the downtown business district. That project comes with an estimated cost of $550,000.

Another project includes concrete removal and replacement along Cedar Street from James Ave. to Butler Ave., at an estimated cost of $100,000. The third project, also on Cedar Street, runs from Highway 6 to Dorr Ave., coming in at an estimated cost of $230,000.

No estimated timeframe was discussed related to the two Cedar Street projects.

Finally, council members approved Drew Sandoz as a new member of the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department.
