Edgar Council approves 2 resolutions for special election

During the Edgar Council’s July 8 meeting, council members unanimously approved two resolutions involving a special ballot.

Resolution #2025-7-01 is to place a ballot question for a half percent sales tax before voters; Resolution #2025-07-02, is to place a ballot question to approve municipal lottery (Keno) before the voters, both in a special election.

Now passed, the resolutions will be given to the city’s lawyer and then to the Clay County Clerk’s office.

The city is required to run three public notices about the resolutions in the newspaper before ballots go out to voters.

Overall, the process can take three to four months before the resolutions can be put into action.

In other businesses, the Edgar Volunteer Fire Department received a $1,300 grand toward a thermal camera from Black Hills Energy. The department also asked for council’s approval to add Kyle Thatcher to the EMT insurance, which they did unanimously.
