Wheat harvest was in full swing, with combines and tractors out in a field north of Clay Center, ahead of last year’s start. According to Crop Watch at the Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, winter wheat conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 70 percent, well ahead of 18 percent last year and 36 percent average.
