Despite an early lead by the Sutton Seniors, Holdrege Inspire Rehabilitation took a narrow 7-6 win July 19 after a five-run bout in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Holdrege kicked off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, after a scoreless first inning by both teams.

Sutton’s first run came in the top of the third when Payton Reed crossed home plate. Caleb Reiners scored two plays later after Weston Ohrt grounded the ball near third base.

Three more runs came in for Sutton, compliments of Joey Pedersen, Aidan Jones, and Cody Funk, taking a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the third.

Sutton had one final run in the top of the fourth—by Reiners— before Holdrege opened the gates and had five runners reach home.

With Sutton unable to tie or overcome those five runs, Holdrege took home the victory, 7-6.

Sutton went to bat 29 times, earning 11 hits and four walks.

On the mound was Treven Stassiness, who allowed six hits, seven runs, and four walks, striking out six.
