Clay Center Rescue offers Advanced Life Saving

Clay Center’s Rescue Squad recently transferred to Advanced Life Support (ALS), with three ALS providers on board.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is what most volunteer rescue squads run as, which means they are trained in a certain set of livesaving medical skills that can be performed in the early stages of an emergency.

Put simply, BLS is there to help maintain all life functions until the ambulance can get a person or people to the hospital.

ALS takes everything EMTs learned to become a BLS operation and upgrades their skills.

Those with ALS training can perform more interventions such as advanced airway management, medication administration, and advanced cardiac life support (keeping the heart going using more techniques other than CPR).

With these advancements, Clay Center’s ambulance crew can continue to provide care for Clay Center— and surrounding areas when needed—with more life-saving options.
