After claiming an 11-4 dominating first round win over Valentine, the Sutton Senior Legion baseball team ran into a buzz saw of sorts in the second round of the Class C State Tournament in Sutton, as Malcolm pounded out five total hits to cruise to a 7-0 shutout win over the Mustangs Sunday night.

Sutton’s lone hit came from Kaleb Ostrander, as he recorded a double in the loss. Sutton had the lone hit in 20 total at bats in the loss.

Payton Reed suffered the loss on the mound for Sutton, as in four innings of work, Reed walked eight, while striking out three. Reed gave up five runs on three hits.

In relief, DJ Hajny walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs on two hits, while Ostrander yielded one walk.

Malcolm’s battery of pitchers, three in all, handcuffed Sutton’s hitters, striking out 13, while issuing just six walks, and the one Sutton hit from Ostrander.

Sutton remained alive where they were to take on Pender in an elimination game Monday at DLD Park.
