Anthony A. Mattison took a plea deal Aug. 19; he pled no contest to two counts in Clay County and two counts in Adams County.
In Clay County District Court, where Mattison was charged for the murder of Jasmine Garnett, which occurred in September of 2022 outside Harvard, Mattison’s plea deal included:
• Count I: Murder in Second Degree, Class IB Felony; and
• Count II: Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, IC Felony.
Counts III and IV were dismissed, and the State of Nebraska agreed not to proceed with habitual criminal enhancement on Counts I and II of the amdended information.
In Adams County District Court, where Mattison was arrested following a shoot-out with Hastings Police, his plea deal included:
• Count I: Attempted Second Degree Murder, Class II Felony; and
• Count VII: Attempted Second Degree Murder, Class II Felony.
The state agreed to the dismissal of Counts II, III, IV, V, VI, VIII, IX, and X of the amended information.
The state agreed not to proceed with habitual criminal enhancement on Counts I and VII of the amended information.
In both cases, as stated in the plea deal, the state agreed not to file additional charges as a result of the defendants actions on Sept. 17 and 22, 2022, in Clay and Adams Counties, respectively. Sentencing in each county must be served consecutively. Murder in the Second Degree has a maximum sentencing of life in prison and a minimum of 20 years. Use of a firearm to Commit a Felony has a maximum sentencing of 50 years and a minimum of three years.
Attempted Second Degree Murder has a maximum sentencing of 50 years and a minimum of one year.
The defendant was found guilty of all amended information following Mattison’s plea of No Contest in Clay County.
