Fillies golf finishes 3rd at Kearney Catholic Invite

The Sutton Fillies golf team had a busy opening week of action last week, as after placing fourth as a team at the Doniphan- Trumbull Invite, Aug. 26, the Fillies headed west for Kearney, to take on the field of teams in the Kearney Catholic Invite, Aug. 28, played on Kearney’s Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in west Kearney.

Senior Mia Ochsner paced Sutton in Kearney, and was the lone medalist for the Fillies, as she placed seventh individually with an 18-hole 91. Ochsner opened her day on the front nine with a 44 and wound up her round with a 47 on the back nine. Grand Island Central Catholic’s Kenzie Clausen was the top medalist in the tournament, firing a 75 to edge out second place medalist Kaylee Olsen of Gothenburg, who shot a 78.

Rounding out the field for Sutton was Shepleigh Orht, who narrowly missed the top 15 medalists, as Ohrt placed 16th overall with a 106. Ohrt opened with a 55 on the front nine and shaved four strokes off of her first round score to shoot a 51 on the back nine.

Isabella Trejo fired a 108 for the day, carding scores of 51 and 57. Laurel Moore finished with a 110 with scores of 55 on both the front and back nine, while Addison George finished the day with a 118, shooting scores of 56 and 62.

TEAM SCORES: Grand Island Central Catholic 384, Ravenna 405, Sutton 415, Cozad 421, Kearney Catholic 430, Hastings High 430, EMF 431, Broken Bow 442, Gothenburg 478, Wood River 535, Sandy Creek 540, Gibbon 542. No team scores for St. Paul, Doniphan- Trumbull, and Arcadia/Loup City.
