Fillies outlast Cougars in 3 sets

The Sutton Fillies and Sandy Creek Cougars faced off for the first time during the 2025 volleyball season, with the Fillies rebounding from a first set, 25-20, loss to claim the final two sets of the match, beating Sandy Creek 25-19, 25-12 to earn the win.

Sutton, as a team, hit .163 at the net with 35 total kills, while Sandy Creek finished hitting .082 with 21 total kills.

Katie Baldwin led the attack for Sutton with 10 kills, while hitting .231, as she converted on 22 of 26 total attacks.

Kamryn Steinhauer followed Baldwin with nine kills, as she was 32-35 on the attack, hitting .071, and Miranda Nuss added five kills, as she was 13-14 overall, while hitting a team high .286.

Setting up the Sutton attack was a combined leading effort by Avery Smith and Elsa Andersen, as both had 11 assists in the victory, while Kyla Griess added five assists.

Smith was perfect in all 55 set attempts, while Andersen was a perfect 36-36.

Emma Fisher led Sandy Creek’s attack with 10 kills, finishing 36 of 41 at the net with a .122 hitting percentage. Anna Paus recorded four kills and was 12-13 on the attack, while hitting .231 in the match, with Katelyn Pohlmeier putting down three kills, and converting on 18 of 19 attempts to hit .105 in the loss.

Morgan Petr put up a team high 11 assists in the match, as she was 48-48, while Pohlmeier was 46-46 with eight assists.

Sutton held a 4-2 blocking edge on the defensive side of the net, with Baldwin gaining two blocks for the Fillies, while Jadlynn Kinney and Kaci Yost both had one.

Caitlin Biltoft and Pohlmeier both had one block for the Cougars.

Sutton’s defense was paced by Griess with 21 digs and Steinhauer with 19, while Emersyn Pohlmeier’s matchhigh 20 digs led Sandy Creek. Petr added 12 and Fisher finished with 11.
