Hinrichs runs for 160 yards, scores 4 times in Mustangs 68-6 victory
Powered by the typical Sutton Mustangs’ rushing attack, the Mustangs bulled their way to a 68-6 victory over the Heartland Huskies Friday, Sept. 5.
Sutton rolled up 324 yards on the ground, with an added 10 yards passing, to gain the 62-point win and improve to 2-0 as they prepare for the two-hour drive to Southern Valley High School, south of Oxford, Friday.
Junior Connor Hinrichs, who ran for 256 yards in Sutton’s season-opening 62-34 win over McCool Junction, had another big night against the Huskies. He carried 13 times for 160 yards—a 12.3-yard average— bringing his season totals to 416 yards on 47 carries (8.85 per attempt).
Hinrichs scored four touchdowns while recording his longest run of the night against Heartland of 37 yards.
Senior quarterback, Keith Kliewer chewed up 65 yards on just two carries scoring on both carries, while junior Griffin Bergen ran for 20 yards on three carries.
Adding to the rushing attack were Creighton Jones with 23 yards on three carries, Tristan Griess carried four times for 16 yards, Harrison Schurman added 14 yards on four carries, and Javin Jordan gained 13 yards on two carries.
Rounding out the ground game was Rexx Meyer and Chase Clark as both gained five yards on one carry, and DJ Hajny gained three yards on one carry.
Kliewer was a perfect 2-2 passing for 10 yards, completing both passes to Jacob Huxoll.
Meyer led Sutton’s tackle chart with nine stops, six of which were solo tackles.
Jacob Huxoll, Hinrichs, Juan Reyes, and Tristan Griess all had six tackles, while Eli Ladehoff gained five, Max Huxoll and Aydin Banta were in on four stops each, with Hajny, Clark, and Brian Liberato making three tackles each.
Hajny also blocked a pair of Heartland punts in the win, while senior Carson Cline jumped on one Heartland fumble.
