Cougars rack up 536 yards of total offense in rebound win
Sandy Creek recovered from their week two loss at Shelby-Rising City by defeating Alma 68–28, as the Cougars improved to 2-1 on the young season.
After being shut out in the previous game’s second half, the Cougar offense came back strong. It was a tight back-and forth first quarter with Alma striking first on a reverse pass and adding the two-point conversion to go up 8-0.
The Cougars answered right back with a pass from Kamerin Sealey to Logan Tomky from 25 yards out for six and Sealey would power it in for the two-point conversion to tie it up 8-8.
The Cougars defense would score next to take the lead with an interception from Wes Biltoft that would be returned for a touchdown, with Kaeden Schmidt running it in for the two-point conversion to make it 16-8.
The Cougars defense stood tall down in their own territory next drive to force a turnover on downs and would take over at their own 11, which later offense would lead to a Sealey 10-yard keeper for six and Schmidt would run the two-point conversion to make the score 24-8 Cougars with 11:08 left to go in the second quarter.
Alma then went down and scored on their next offensive possession to make it 24-14.
On the Cougars next offensive drive, Schmidt would burst through the line and sprint down the sideline for a 58-yard touchdown run, and Schmidt would also get the two-point conversion to extend the Cougar lead to 32-14. Sandy Creek would get another stop on defense, then on the first play from scrimmage for the Cougars, Sealey would take a shot deep for Biltoft down the field and Biltoft hauled it in and take it for a 64-yard touchdown extending the Cougars lead 38-14 with 5:58 to go before half.
Just before the half, Sealey hit Tomky in the back of the endzone for an 18-yard score and followed it up with a twopoint pass to Tomky, stretching the lead to 46-14.
Following the break, the Cougars opened with posses- sion and promptly scored as Sealey connected with Tomky on a 43-yard touchdown pass. Sealey then successfully completed the two-point conversion, bringing the score to 54-14 in favor of the Cougars.
Sandy Creek and Alma both had a tough time trying to score in the third quarter, but to start the fourth quarter, Sealey would find the end zone for a six-yard touchdown run to push the Cougars lead to 60-14 with 11:54 remaining in the game.
Alma scored two more times on the Cougars as Sandy Creek would one more time with an Alex Watts five-yard keeper, and Jedt Livgren would get the two-point conversion making the final score 68 to 28 Cougars.
Sealey had a big night passing the ball, completing 15 of his 20 pass attempts for a blistering 345 yards.
Sealey also added 108 yards on the ground on 11 carries, while Schmidt toted the ball seven times for 63 yards, and Alex Watts carred three times for 20 yards.
On the receiving end of Sealey’s passes, Biltoft hauled in two catches for 117 yards, Schmidt collected seven receptions for 110 yards, and Tomky added four grabs for 90 yards.
Alex Watts made one grab for 15 yards, while Alston Clark had one that covered five yards.
