Sandy Creek moves to 3-1, gains 362 total yards during rain soaked contest
The Sandy Creek football team improved their record to 3-1 for the season with a decisive victory over Tri County Friday, Sept 19, ending the game with a 48-8 victory.
Sandy Creek’s offense started strong despite the rain, with Kaeden Schmidt catching a five-yard swing pass from Kamerin Sealey for a touchdown. Schmidt then scored the two-point conversion, putting the team up 8-0 with 5:45 left in the first quarter.
The Cougars forced Tri County to turn the ball over on downs on their first series, giving Sandy Creek excellent field position.
Sealey scored on a 27-yard quarterback run, with Schmidt completing the two-point conversion, resulting in a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Alex Watts came up with an interception on the next defensive possession at the Cougars’ 17 and then returned it to the where the Cougars would start their next offensive drive.
The Cougars marched down the field and find the endzone with a Sealey swing pass to Schmidt for a touchdown with Alston Clark powering in the two-point conversion to make it 24-0.
Sandy Creek added two more touchdowns prior to halftime; first, Sealey scored on a nine-yard run to increase the lead to 30-0. Then Sealey connected with Wes Biltoft on a 10-yard pass, bringing the score to 36-0 at the end of the first half.
Out of the break, Alex Watts connected with Wyatt Hemberger on a deep pass, and Hemberger finished the catchand- run for a touchdown, extending the Cougars’ lead to 42-0 with 9:17 left in the third quarter.
Tri County scored one time with 3:17 left in the game making the score 42-8.
But before the final whistle sounded, Evan Swartzendruber ran in one final touchdown for the Cougars from 35 yards out making it 48-8.
The Cougars offensively end the night with 362 yards with 207 yards on the ground and 155 yards coming from the air.
Sealey ended the night with 135 yards going 16-17 with three touchdowns and Watts went 1-1 for 20 yards and one touchdown.
Sealey led the Cougars in rushing yards with 70 total, Jedt Livgren added 53 yards, Swartzendruber, 35 yards, Schmidt gained 24 yards, while Watts had 20 yards, and John Skalka, five.
The leading receiver was Hemberger with 56 total yards, Watts gained 45, Biltoft added 43 yards through the air, while Schmidt gained 11 yards.
