Students involved with breakout and panel discussion, NSP mock homicide investigation
The Sutton Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Career Day event at Sutton Public Schools, Wednesday, Sept. 17, involving students in the middle school and high school.
In all, a group of 23 speakers talked with students to open the day during breakout sessions that ran from 8:10-10:30 a.m.
Presenting in the breakout sessions included: Jess Hinrichs, Neal Schlautman, Jarvis Smith, Neal Ely, Taylor Buescher, Tanner Steingard, Leslie Kathman, Monica Chapa, Jarrod Aspegren, Jeremiah Peterson, Andy Foust, Katie VanderLey, Chandler Stone, Liz Friesen, Ashley Gemar, Amanda Nunnenkamp, Brett Bebensee, Jarod Griess, Dante Boelhower, Tanna Spencer, Kreighton Baxter, Josh Craig, and Haley Malone.
Each of the speakers talked about their professions with students, and fielded questions, giving students some insight about each profession the speakers were involved in.
Following the breakout sessions, students attended two different panel discussions, where speakers talked in depth about their careers, and how they chose their career paths. Presenting to the students were Melanie Nuss, Kaleigh Nuss, Tanna Spencer, Kyle Baumert, Taylor Buescher, and Chandler Stone.
Each student, following the panel discussions, then went into the SPS theater where Jason Morris, an investigator with the Nebraska State Patrol, staged a mock homicide investigation and walked the student body through a detailed investigation, demonstrating to the room full each step that the state patrol investigative team takes during a homicide.
The event was closed out with event organizer Brooke Marshall and her team of volunteers giving out prizes to students that were involved with the day-long event.
