Fillies golf claims C-1 District title Monday
For the second straight year, the Sutton Fillies golf team has qualified for the Class C state golf tournament as a team. Not only that, Sutton claimed their second straight district championship on Lincoln’s Hidden Valley Golf Course, as the Fillies outshot second-place EMF by 18 strokes to win the Class C-1 title.
Played under wet and cold conditions throughout the day, Monday, Oct. 6, the steady but sure Fillies battled both the elements and the players in a field of over 70 golfers to outscore the Bobcats 408-420. Lincoln Christian placed third with a 422, as the top three teams qualified for next week’s state tournament in North Platte, Monday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Junior Shepleigh Ohrt and senior Mia Ochsner paced Sutton with scores of 95 and 96, respectively, as Ohrt placed fourth overall, and Ochsner, fifth.
Ohrt opened play with a 51 on the front nine holes of play, and then shaved seven strokes off of her score to shoot a 44 on the back.
Ochsner played a steady hand as well, shooting a 49 on the front, and a 47 on the back.
Senior Laurel Moore fired a 107 for the day with scores of 52 and 55 during the two ninehole rounds. Aniston Jasnoch finished with scores of 53 and 57 to total 110 strokes, while Addison George shot scores of 57 on both sides of the course to finish with a 114.
