Waypoint Bank purchase of Astra Bank in Sutton now complete

Waypoint Bank announces its selection of Sutton resident and industry veteran Merlyn Haight to lead Waypoint Bank–Sutton.

As Branch Manager, Haight will lead the dayto- day management of the branch, write loans, and oversee all aspects of customer service. He previously worked at Astra Bank for over 25 years, including serving as President before stepping away from the banking industry.

“We are fortunate to have Merlyn serve as the Branch Manager to help us launch Waypoint Bank–Sutton,” Waypoint Bank President Tim Sladek, said. “His banking experience will serve our customers well.” Haight grew up in Oxford, and his first job was at Commercial Bank in Stratton. He is proud of being a lending partner for farm and community businesses, helping them achieve their goals. He appreciates that Waypoint Bank is family-owned, community- focused, and based in Nebraska He and his wife, Emmy, have three children. Jacob is a business teacher and coach at Arlington High School, while Colton and Jacee are students at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.

He’s involved in the Sutton Chamber of Commerce, coaches youth sports, participates in church groups, and was a leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He enjoys golf, visiting his kids, and attending Husker games.

Sladek is confident Astra customers will feel at home with Haight and Waypoint Bank. “Customers can expect the same personalized service they’ve come to know and trust,” Sladek said. “Other than a new name on the door, not much will change, and that’s exactly how it should be.”
