Kateri near McCool Junction, the Cougars’ warmup meet for the post-season proved to be the Southern Nebraska Conference Meet, hosted this year at Fairbury High School.

The Cougar girls had a pair of runners entered during the Oct. 9 run, with Madison Shaw again leading the way, placing third overall in the field of 37 runners.

Shaw finished the 5000-meter course with a time of 21 minutes, 33.85 seconds.

Tri County’s Sage Holtmeier claimed individual gold for the girls with a time of 20:13.66. Milford’s Macie Carter finished second with a time of 20:41.1.

Rounding out the Sandy Creek girls’ race was Ava Hubl, placing 19th overall with a time of 25:38.83.

On the boys’ side of the SNC races, the field of 51 total runners would see Sandy Creek’s Embry Frazier place 41st overall with a time of 22:51.14, while Asher Eitzmann placed 44th with his time of 24:03.8.

Winning the boys’ race was Avery Carter of Milford with a time of 17:26.9. Carter edged out Tri County’s Drew Siems, who placed second with a time of 17:41.84.

The girls’ race at the D-4 meet south of McCool Junction will begin at 4 p.m., this Thursday, Oct. 16, with the boys’ race to follow. State cross country will once again be in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 24, with the girls’ Class D race set to start at 12 noon at the Kearney Country Club, while the Class D boys’ race is slated to start at 1 p.m.
