Harvard sophomore, Brexten Kobza, kept up his strong running ways as he and his Harvard cross country teammates tuned up for the D-4 District meet this Thursday, Oct. 16.
Kobza placed third overall at the McCool Junction Invite, held on the site of the D-4 District, Camp Kateri, just south of McCool Junction.
His time of 18 minutes, 48.0 seconds trailed only Carter Mierau and Ethyn Schade, both of McCool Junction, as Mierau won the 5000-meter race with a time of 17:35.1, while Schade edged out Kobza for second with his time of 18:37.6.
Weston Niemoth placed 31st overall in the field of 60 runners with a time of 21:51.0.
Avery Verhage was the 14th-place runner in the girls’ 5000-meter race with her time of 26:14.1. Winning the girls’ race, in a field of 19 runners, was Kayleigh Betka of McCool Junction with a time of 20:11.0.
The girls’ race at the D-4 meet will begin at 4 p.m., this Thursday, with the boys’ race to follow. State cross country will be in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 24, with the girls Class D race set to start at 12 noon at the Kearney Country Club, while the Class D boys race is slated to run off at 1 p.m.
