Sutton trips SC for 5th place in SNC tournament
The second match up of the 2025 volleyball season between Clay County rivals again went to the Sutton Fillies, this time in the match for fifth place in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament.
Sutton, who had upended the Cougars in three sets back on Sept. 2, came away with a 25-18, 25-22 win over Sandy Creek in two sets Thursday night, Oct. 16, in Milford.
Sutton gained the fifthplace match with a 25-19, 25-18 win over Fillmore Central earlier in the day, while the Cougars dominated Tri County, 25-17, 25-22 to reach the final match of the tournament.
On the attack, Sutton hit .187 for the match, collecting 28 total kills, led by junior Katie Baldwin with 11.
Kamryn Steinhauer downed six kills, while Jadlynn Kinney gained four, Miranda Nuss, three, while Kayden Kauk and Kaci Yost both adding two kills each.
Setting up the Fillies’ attack was Avery Smith with 15 assists and Elsa Andersen with 10.
Sutton gained two aces in the match, with Steinhauer and Smith having one each.
As a team, Sutton was 47-49 serving (95.9%).
On the defensive side of the net for Sutton, Kyla Griess had a team high 13 digs, while Steinhauer added nine, and Dyvet Fonseca, seven.
Nuss and Yost both had three blocks each, while Kinney and Baldwin blocked back one Sandy Creek attack.
