Shaw earns 2nd state meet medal
Sandy Creek sophomore Madison Shaw (712) placed seventh overall in the Class D girls state cross country meet in Kearney Friday, Oct. 24. Her time of 19 minutes, 50.0 seconds earned her state meet hardware for the second year in a row, as she placed fourth overall as a freshman in 2024. Crofton freshman Avery Arens ran away with the state championship, beating second-place Delani Runnels of Niobrara/Verdigre by nearly two full minutes, with a time of 17:19.0. Shaw shaved off over 25 seconds from her time in Kearney a year ago when she finished the 5000-meter in 20:15.71. Teammate Paige Stengel, featured on page 2B this week, finished 49th overall in a field of 121 runners with a time of 21:34.8. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS
