For well over four weeks, not including a few weeks of working with former Sutton City Administrator Jeff Hofaker, Sutton’s new city administrator, Warren Myers, has settled into a seat that he has longed for since getting involved with city government, after taking a part-time position with the City of Albion in 2015.
Fast forward 10 years for Myers and life has certainly seemed like a race at the Indy 500 for him and his family.
He married his wife Brooke in 2017, and to that, the Myers family has added four children, Carter, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Sutton; Aliyah, an 11-yearold fifth grader; Hunter, a 9-year-old fourth grader; and Braden, a 5-year-old kindergartner.
“The kids have really fit in well since moving to Sutton, they’re making friends, loving school, at least what they tell me. My wife and I are pleased with our decision to make Sutton our new home,” Myers shared.
Prior to coming to Sutton, Myers, an Illinois native, moved to Nebraska in 2012, working in a Columbus nursing home, and then for the Nebraska Department of Roads, also in Columbus.
Then a part-time gig with the City of Albion as the city building inspector began his life in city government.
From 2018 to this past September, Myers served several full-time roles for the City of Albion, including, but not limited to: working in the public works division for the city, serving as the zoning administrator, also serving as the city’s water and sewer administrator, and as a code officer.
Myers self-admittedly knew that someday he wanted to serve as a city administrator, and that goal came to life early this spring, becoming Sutton’s city administrator.
“I kind of feel lucky when I came upon the Sutton opening. I was just looking through online positions when I noticed the Sutton opening. I applied, got an interview, and ultimately received an offer from the Sutton council and mayor.
“I knew when I found that dream position for me that it had to be in a small town, because I wanted my family to reap the benefits of continuing to live the small town life,” Myers noted.
In his 6-7 weeks in Sutton, Myers has had the opportunity to meet with many business people, citizens and leaders of Sutton and he admits, “Its what I had hoped for, coming to a community where people tell you what they are thinking, what they feel good growth for Sutton is, and of course what they don’t like.”
Myers added, “This community is so willing to talk and offer advice and even ideas and answers as to how to move Sutton forward in a positive way.”
His personal goals for the city fall right in line with the direction that Sutton is already going, continue to work on economic growth and to improve the City of Sutton’s infrastructure, such as street improvements, sewer and water upgrades. Ultimately, Myers wants to attract new businesses and citizens to Sutton through positive growth.
Myers shared, “Sutton has had so much growth and improvements already in place, such as the new housing development, the recent downtown improvement projects and so much more.”
He added, “Discussion with the park board is ongoing to possibly bring a new splash pad to the community. We’re just not sure where that might go, potentially at the Lions Club Park (at the corner of South Saunders Ave., and East Helen St.), or even at the main City Park. There’s still a lot of work to do to bring that to a reality.”
Myers certainly wants citizens and business owners to know that his door is always open. “I’m the kind of City Administrator that wants people to know I’m here, willing to work hard for this community and continue to grow Sutton in a strong and positive forward direction.”
Myers added, “With the help of our mayor, Tim Andersen, and our city council, Mike Newman, Reed Stone, Sherrie Bartel, and Larry T. Nuss, this community will continue to prosper well.”

Warren Myers officially stepped into the role of Sutton’s newest city administrator Wednesday, Oct. 1, after working with city staff since mid-September. The Illinois native and his family came to Sutton from Albion. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS
