SC swamps the Gators Cougars head to quarterfinal round against Bridgeport with 51-6 win over Wisner-Pilger

Sandy Creek rolled past the Wisner-Pilger Gators during the second round of the Class D-1 State Football Playoffs Friday night by way of a 51-6 drubbing of the Gators to improve to 9-1 on the year and advance to the quarterfinal round of the postseason.

Sandy Creek struck early and often, with the Cougars’ first score coming on a Kamerin Sealey eight-yard touchdown pass to Wes Biltoft, with Kaeden Schmidt adding the two-point conversion run to give the Cougars an 8-0 lead.

Wisner-Pilger’s first offensive possession would see Josh Spray gain a huge quarterback sack, followed by a high snap over the punter’s head that gave the Cougars possession at the Wisner- Pilger 13-yard line.

It wouldn’t take Sandy Creek long to score following the Gator miscue, as Schmidt ran the ball for six points from 13 yards out, setting the score at 14-0 with 2:14 left in the first quarter.

Sandy Creek’s next offensive possession needed just one play to get in for six more points, as Sealey again found Biltoft down the middle of the field with Biltoft snagging the ball in the end zone for a 41-yard touchdown score. Schmidt converted the two-point try to make the score 22-0 with 18 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Cougars scored twice in the second quarter with one coming from a 30-yard touchdown run from Sealey and with the added Schmidt two-point conversion giving Sandy Creek a 30-0 lead with 10:17 left in the second quarter.

Schmidt then added to the Cougar lead, this time from eight yards out. Ben Burger tacked on the extra-point kick giving Sandy Creek a 37-0 lead with 2:20 left in the first half.

After halftime, the Cougars advanced down the field and scored on a 31-yard swing pass from Sealey to Schmidt. Burger’s point after touchdown was successful, bringing the score to 44-0.

Sandy Creek’s final touchdown of the night came on the third connection between Sealey and Biltoft, this time from five-yards out. Burger had another successful extra-point kick for a 51-0 lead.

Wisner-Pilger scored late to prevent the shutout, ending the game at 51-6.

Sandy Creek’s quick-paced scoring barrage left the Cougars with just 80 rushing yards in the game, led by Sealey with 67 yards on just four carries. Schmidt tallied 13 yards on his one carry into the endzone.

Evan Swartzendruber carried the ball three times for seven yards, while Alex Watts had two totes for six yards.

A pair of freshmen, Brockett Reed and Owen Spray, finished in the negative at game’s end.

Sealey’s arm, however, totaled 211 yards through the air, with Biltoft grabbing five passes for 71 yards and three touchdowns, while Schmidt’s two touchdown catches yielded 62 yards from Sealey on three total catches.

The aerial attack was closed out by Alex Watts with one grab for 26 yards, Wyatt Hemberger with three catches for 19 yards, Alston Clark with one catch covering 17 yards, and Logan Tomky with one catch for 16 yards.
