The Sutton City Council convened for it’s monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 10, to go over a light agenda of items, with the top topic being the approval of increasing liens against three properties that are listed on the current vacant property registration (VPR) list that is managed for the city by Five-Rule, LLC out of Kearney.
The three properties, located at 105 N. Way Ave., 305 S. Saunders Ave., and 203 S. Maltby are now facing an increased balance of unpaid fees to the city, which increased from $2,500 to $6,250 with the approval by the city.
The council also advised that a business property located at 111 S. Butler Ave, even though it has been removed from the VPR list is still delinquent on liens in the amount of $15,000 that were filed against Kenneth Moore, the owner of the property, while it was an active property on the list.
Council members requested that Mr. Moore needs to be reminded of the debt still owed to the city during the time the property was active on the VPR list.
Council members approved a bid by Steele Pool Company of Kearney to paint the Sutton Aquatic Center for the summer season of 2026, approving the bid, which was also approved by the Sutton Park Board in the amount of $16,700 prior to the pool opening up for the 2026 season.
Sutton Police Chief Tracey Landenberger introduced a new part-time officer to the council, Brandon Mount. Mount currently works for the York Police Department, and will serve part-time for Landenberger’s department.
Council members also approved extended hours for Maury’s Place during the holiday season, approving the Sutton establishment may remain open until 2 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, as well as on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
The next meeting of the council is set for Monday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
