Cougar netters have banner season with 20-13 run during the 2025 volleyball season

5 players earn All-County honors, 5 more earn CCN honorable mention awards

Sandy Creek’s volleyball team put together a strong, banner season in 2025, posting their first winning record since 2017, when the Cougars went 17-12, and their first 20-plus winning season since 2015, when Sandy Creek was 22-8.

This year, Sandy Creek wrapped up the year with an impressive 20-13 record, and advanced to the C2-8 Sub-District final.

The Cougars opened their season in late August and finished September with a record of 12 wins and six losses..

August’s lone two matches proved to be a two-match sweep of Blue Hill and Meridian, before a three-match losing skid to BDS, Sutton, and Wilber-Clatonia.

Additional September wins came over H&H, Kenesaw, Deshler, Ravenna, Fillmore Central, Giltner, Gibbon, Wilber-Clatonia, Sterling, and Palmyra.

September setbacks came at the hands of Centennial, Thayer Central, and Tri County.

In October, the final month of the regular season, Sandy Creek was 7-6 for the month, cashing in on wins over Deshler, Fillmore Central, High Plains, Centennial, Wilber-Clatonia, Tri County, and Superior.

The Cougars fell to Centura, Minden, EMF, Milford, Sutton, and Doniphan- Trumbull.

In sub-district action, Oct 27 and 28, Sandy Creek claimed a five-set win over Elm Creek before falling to Hastings St. Cecilia in the final, 3-1, to end the year at 20-13.

TEAM LEADERS

Senior Emma Fisher was the Cougars’ powerhouse hitter on the year, as she pounded home 378 kills and hit at a .220 clip. Fisher was followed by senior Paige Biltoft with 126 kills, while hitting .135 on the year.

Two other hitters hit above 80 kills on the year, with sophomore Carrigan Rempe collecting 88, and senior Anna Paus, 87.

Guiding the attack at the net was senior setter, Katelyn Pohlmeier as she posted a whopping 687 assists during the season and only had 11 setting errors in 2,397 total attempts.

Serving leaders proved to be freshman newcomer, Emersyn Pohlmeier, as she had a time-high 44 aces, while serving 89.8 percent.

Senior Lillian Everson and junior Morgan Petr both had 29 aces, with Everson serving at an 85.5 percent clip, while Petr served 92.7 percent.

Fisher had a team-high serving percentage of 95.5 percent and gained 24 aces. Katelyn Pohlmeier also had 24 aces and served at a 92.5 percent clip.

Defensive leaders were Paige Biltoft with 48 blocks, Caitlyn Biltoft with 47 blocks, Claire Williamson with 31 blocks and Katelyn Pohlmeier with 30 blocks.

Dig leaders were Emersyn Pohlmeier with 455 total, Fisher with 425, Rempe with 268, and Petr with 196.

ALL-COUNTY

Ten Sandy Creek players were honored in this week’s “All-County” listing by the Clay County News.

First-team selections were Fisher, Katelyn Pohlmeier, and Paige Biltoft, while second team honors went to Rempe and Paus.

Special honors and honorable- mention honors went to Emersyn Pohlmeier, Caitlyn Biltoft, Everson, Petr, and Williamson.
