Cougars claim 2nd straight Class D-1 state championship

Cougars wrap up season at 12-1, average 54.2 points per game during 2025 title run

Coming off of a perfect 13-0 state championship run in 2024, the Sandy Creek Football team kept their sights on that same big prize, the Class D-1 state championship title again in 2025.

After opening the new season with a 56-26 road win at Johnson- Brock, a second road trip during game two of the season would deal the Cougars their first loss in 15 games, as Shelby-Rising City delivered the blow, winning 32-24 over Sandy Creek to set the Cougars at 1-1.

After that tough road loss, however, Sandy Creek rolled through the rest of the regular season, dominating their way past Alma, 68-26 in week three, past Tri County, 48-8, then cruising to a 45-22 win at Thayer Central.

Week six took the Cougars to Sutton, where Sandy Creek rolled to a 55-14 win, while closing out the regular season with a 63-12 win over Exeter-Milligan/Friend, before shutting out Southern, 71-0, to send the Cougars into the post season as the third seed in the D-1 state playoffs.

Sandy Creek opened play in the post-season against EMF and claimed a 60-14 win. Round two brought the Gators of Wisner-Pilger to Sandy Creek, with the Cougars claiming a 51-6 victory.

The quarterfinals pitted the Cougars against Bridgeport, with Sandy Creek earning a 45-16 win, to advance to the semifinals for the third year. There, they defeated the Plainview Pirates 53-22 to gain their second straight bid for the D-1 title game. Sandy Creek then dominated the Crofton Warriors 66-26 to lay claim to their second straight championship to finish the year 12-1.
