Sandy Creek went 2-0 in the opening week of the 2025-26 girls basketball season with wins over Wood River and David City.
Thursday night was Cougars’ first game as they defeated Wood River 42-20.
With some opening night jitters, it was low scoring in the first quarter then things got going for the Cougars as they would get going in the second quarter, scoring 15 points and keep it rolling through the second half. They led 21-11 at the break, before outscoring the Eagles 21-9 in the second half to secure the 22 point victory.
Madison Shaw led the Cougars with 13 points, Emma Fisher had seven points, Caitlyn Biltoft and Carrigan Rempe had six points each, Morgan Petr and Paige Biltoft had three points, and Emersyn Pohlmeier and Jade VonSpreckelsen had two points each.
The Cougars had double digits in three categories in the game with 28 rebounds, 11 assists, and 21 steals.
Fisher pulled down a teamhigh 10 rebounds, with Rempe gaining seven and Paige Biltoft four.
Shaw and Rempe dealt out four assists each, with Fisher and Rempe both gaining six steals in the win.

In the Cougars second win of the season over David City 49-25, Saturday, Dec. 8, it was a tight game in the first quarter as it was tied at 11 but Cougars defense came out of the break ready and held David City to only two points and then three points in the third quarter and Cougars would pull away by scoring 11 and 14 in the next two quarters to claim the 24 point win over the Scouts.
The Cougars’ scoring was led by two double-digit scorers, Madison Shaw and Emma Fisher. Shaw finished the night with 25 points, and Fisher, 16 points, other players that finished with points were Caitlyn Biltoft with three points, Carrigan Rempe and Zarri Witherspoon with two points and Morgan Petr with one.
On the glass, Fisher gained seven rebounds, while Caitlin Biltoft gained six.
