Cougars cruise past Centennial, Tri County in SNC action last week

Two more strong outings on the hardwood moved the Sandy Creek boys forward as the Cougars cruised to a 61-32 road win over Centennial on Thursday, Dec. 11, before returning home Saturday, Dec. 13, to claim a 55-43 victory over Tri County for their third Southern Nebraska Conference win of the young season.

Against Centennial, Sandy Creek scored early and often in the first half, running to a 34-11 halftime lead, before outscoring the Broncos 27-21 in the second half for the 29-point victory.

Logan Tomky led Sandy Creek with 15 points, while Wes Biltoft and Kamerin Sealey both hit for nine.

Wyatt Hemberger and Sam Watts tallied six each, with Christian Shaw and Alex Watts hitting for five each.

Kaeden Schmidt and Wyatt Livgren rounded out the scoring with three each.

Sandy Creek was 23-56 from the floor (41.1%), and drained six of 13 free throws (46.2%).

On the glass, Biltoft ripped down nine rebounds, Sealey and Shaw had seven each, while Tomky and Sam Watts brought down five each.

Sealey gained six assists to lead the Cougars, with Tomky gaining five steals, and Sealey four.

Saturday’s matinee home game with the Trojans of Tri County gained the Cougars an 18-7 first-quarter lead, before the Trojans outscored Sandy Creek 16-8 in the second to trim the Cougars’ halftime lead to 26-23.

Sandy Creek then went on a 20-10 third quarter run to lead 46-33, while a 10-9 Tri County advantage in the fourth set the final at 55-43, Sandy Creek.

Sealey hit for a team-high 12 points, with Biltoft gaining 10.

Schmidt added nine, Shaw, eight, with Sam Watts and Tomky both scoring seven and Alex Watts two.

Sandy Creek was 21-45 from the floor (46.7%), while at the charity stripe, Sandy Creek was 9-15 (60%).

Biltoft and Sealey both had 10 rebounds in the win, with Shaw gaining four.

Sealey dished out seven assists to aid in the 4-0 start Saturday.
