Josefa Thomas, known as B to many in Clay Center, received a special award during the Filipino American Group of South Central Nebraska’s annual Christmas gathering.
The Maharlika Award—Maharlika meaning “noble warrior”—was given to Thomas in recognition of her “exemplary committment, loyalty, and leadership for the Filipino American community.”
Thomas has lived in Clay Center since 1979, moving to the area from Bamban in the Philippians.
Thomas was a teacher when she lived in the Philippians, and when she moved to Clay Center, she worked at various healthcare facilities, including Good Samaritan
