The Sutton Fillies ran their season record to 7-2 over the holiday break by winning the Mead Holiday Tournament with a 63-21 thumping of the host Mead girls, before holding off Archbishop Bergan of Fremont 46-44 in overtime, to gain the tournament title.
In the opener with the host Mead girls, Sutton raced to leads of 19-2, and 39-7 in the first two quarters, then outscored Mead 24-14 in the second half to chart the 42-point victory.
Isabella Trejo hit for a team-high 15 points, while Kali White added 11 to pace the Sutton offense.
Avery Smith added nine points, while Julie Smith added eight, Camden Mau, seven, Addision George, six, Kaci Yost, four, Kierra Ebert, two, and Jadlynn Kinney, one.
Sutton was 28-60 from the floor (46.7%), and hit on just three of 10 foul shots (30%).
White led the Fillies’ rebounding efforts with five boards, while Trejo, Mau, and Avery Smith gaining four rebounds each.
Trejo and Mau had four assists to lead Sutton, with Mau gaining a team-high five steals.

The Fillies’ run to the championship didn’t come easy, as Sutton struggled from the foul line, making just four of 18 total shots from the line (22.2%). From the floor, however, Sutton was a solid 20-49 (40.8%).
Sutton and Bergan ended the first period tied at four, before the Fillies gained a slight edge in the second, outscoring Bergan 13-10 to take a 17-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Bergan outscoring the Fillies 25-22 to set the game at a 42-42 tie, sending the game into overtime where the Fillies held a 7-5 scoring edge to gain the 46-44 win.
Yost was the leading scorer for Sutton with 11 points. White added nine, while Mau and Trejo both hit for eight.
Rounding out the scoring was Miranda Nuss and Avery Smith with four each, and Julie Smith with two.
White gained a team-high nine rebounds, Trejo gained eight, Nuss, seven, and Yost, five.
Yost, Avery Smith, and Mau had two assists each, while White, Trejo and Mau had three steals each.
