A two-game split with the Cross County Cougars and the Centennial Broncos left the Sutton Boys Basketball team with a 7-4 record, as the Cougars rattled off a 61-51 win Thursday, Jan. 8, before the Mustangs bounced back to claim a 59-41 victory Friday, Jan. 9.
Sutton had to play catch-up the entire night with Cross County, as the Cougars held leads of 18-15 and 34-26 after the first two quarters.
Sutton cut the eight-point halftime lead by Cross County to just four in the third quarter with a 17-13 scoring run, setting the game at 47-43 heading into the final quarter, before the Cougars gained a 14-8 scoring edge to seal the 10-point victory over Sutton.
Sutton was 20-52 from the floor (38.5%) and just 2-6 at the foul line (33.3%).
The Huxoll brothers paced the Mustang offense, with Jacob Huxoll leading the scoring with 15, while Max Huxoll dropped in 11.
Myles Smith added nine points, Keith Kliewer, six, while Mason Ehly and Juan Reyes both had four, and Payton Reed, two.
Jacob Huxoll finished off a double-double in the game to pull down 12 rebounds to go with his 15 points.
Reyes gained four boards, with Smith, Max Huxoll, and Ehly gaining three each.
Kliewer dished out three assists to lead, while Max Huxoll had a team-high two steals.

Centennial, with a 14-11 first-quarter run before Sutton held a 13-11 scoring edge, took a 25-14 halftime lead before the Mustangs woke up in the second half and outscored Centennial 33-16 to secure the 18-point win.
The Mustangs were 22-59 from the floor (37.3%), and hit on 11 of 26 foul shots (42.3%).
Jacob Huxoll again hit for a double-double, leading Sutton with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Smith scored 13, and Ehly, 11.
Kliewer put up eight points, with Max Huxoll gaining six, and Reyes, five.
Ehly gained eight rebounds, with Smith dishing out three assists, and Jacob Huxoll making four steals.
