The Sandy Creek girls basketball team delivered a pair of crushing blows this past week to both Superior and Red Cloud to run their season record to 13-2 overall. The Cougars cruised to a 63-15 win over Superior, Jan. 16, before taking down the 11-1 Warriors 70-34 during a Saturday matinee game.
Sandy Creek’s 48-point win over Superior gained the Cougars a 37-7 halftime lead before outscoring the Wildcats 26-8 in the second half to gain the 63-15 Southern Nebraska Conference win.
Carrigan Rempe hit for 16 points, while Emma Fisher dropped in 12, followed by nine points from Emersyn Pohlmeier, six from Zarriana Witherspoon, and another five points from Madision Shaw to lead the way.
The Cougars were 25-57 from the floor (43.9%) and 7-9 at the foul line (77.8%) in the win.
Fisher and Pohlmeier led on the glass with seven and four rebounds, respectively, while Pohlmeier dished out four assists, with Fisher gaining a team-high four steals.

Saturday’s clash with Red Cloud on paper looked as if it was going to be a battle, as the Cougars entered the game with a 12-2 record, while Red Cloud was 11-1, and for the first half, the game was tight, as the Cougars entered the halftime break with a 29-22 lead, but in the second half, Sandy Creek exploded, outscoring the Warriors 29-8 in the third quarter and 12-4 in the fourth to gain the 36 point victory, 70-34.

A trio of Cougars hit double figures, led by Fisher with 21, Shaw with 18, and Paige Biltoft with 14.
Rempe added nine, with Morgan Petr and Pohlmeier both dropping in three, and Caitlyn Biltoft, two.
Fisher had a team high nine rebounds, with Shaw gaining six, and Rempe, five.
Shaw had a team high eight assists, while Fisher gained four steals to lead the way.
