Fresh off their 41-38 win over Wood River, the Sutton Mustangs made life a little easier on themselves to close out last week’s action by claiming a 49-35 Southern Nebraska Conference win over the Thayer Central Titans, Friday, Jan. 16.
Sutton opened the game with an 18-4 scoring run and added a 9-5 run in the second quarter to claim a 27-9 halftime lead.
The Mustangs’ lead expanded to 37-18 at the end of the third quarter before the Titans closed the 19-point gap to 14 at the end of the game with a 17-12 scoring run over Sutton in the fourth.
Sutton was 20-42 from the floor (47.6%) and hit on three of nine foul shots (33.3%).
Max Huxoll paced Sutton’s offensive attack with 17 points. Mason Ehly added nine, Myles Smith, eight, Jacob Huxoll, six, while Harrison Schurman, Keith Kliewer, and Juan Reyes all chipped in with three each.
The Huxoll brothers and Smith all brought down six rebounds each, with Ehly gaining five.
Ehly had two of Sutton’s five assists in the win, while Max Huxoll and Smith nabbed three steals each.
